I prefer to hike alone but miss companionship in camp. It is great when you encounter something beautiful to share it with someone else. But I find that another person talking keeps me anchored in the other world I'm trying to escape. A good day of hiking is when I don't see anybody. For me hiking is a way to re-connect to the life force, the earth. At a certain point most days I stop & truly realize my very tiny part in this incredible, non-stop ball of life that we are part of.
